OUR ORIGIN STORY:

In 2017 a group of authors got together. Most of us knew each other from the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, the heart of the Twin Cities literary community. We decided to work on a project together to have fun and to support a local nonprofit, CLUES, a social service agency on Lake Street that was damaged in a fire. In 2018 Lake Street Stories was born.

We thought that was fun, and it was great raising a few bucks for a wonderful nonprofit, too. What next?

We decided to keep it going, only this time to not write the stories, but to take submissions from others and edit together an anthology of short stories, poetry, and essays. This time, the money would go to Alliance Housing, a Minneapolis non-profit dedicated to making it possible for individuals and families to create homes for themselves, regardless of income and background. A year later, Home was born.

Home was followed by the anthologies Rewilding and 22 Under 22, all to benefit nonprofits. Then, why not novels?

Now, seven years after we first got together, the work continues as Flexible Press under the leadership of editor and publisher William E Burleson, publishing four or five books a year while continuing to support a wide variety of nonprofits.

Who knows what’s next?
